Tyntesfield, one of the National Trust’s most celebrated Victorian estates, was seeking a lighting upgrade for its Welcome Centre – a key arrival point for thousands of visitors each year. The existing lighting was no longer delivering the desired impact, and there was a growing need for a more sustainable, flexible and visually appealing solution that would enhance the exterior architecture without compromising the historic setting.
Connected Light was appointed to consult on a bespoke scheme that would elevate the building’s visual presence while aligning with the Trust’s long-term conservation and sustainability goals. The external space required a balance of heritage sensitivity and technical performance – including colour flexibility, control automation and discreet integration into the site.
Our solution was a tailor-made RGBW linear LED profile system, specifically manufactured to match the dimensions and design requirements of the Welcome Centre. We offer a wide array of linear LED extrusion profiles to suit each application – from high-output and waterproof variants to tuneable white, flexible forms and colour-changing RGBW. In this case, the chosen profile was designed to deliver smooth, uniform illumination that subtly enhanced the building’s architectural lines.
Casambi-enabled controls were integrated into the system, allowing full remote management of colour scenes, brightness levels and timed sequences. This gave the National Trust team the ability to switch between colour themes for different seasons, events or occasions – all managed simply through the Casambi app. This integration reflects our long-standing expertise as a Casambi partner, delivering intuitive lighting control to even the most sensitive environments.
The project was delivered with precision and care, ensuring all works were sympathetic to the listed status of the building and surrounding landscape. The new installation has dramatically improved the visual welcome for visitors, while supporting the Trust’s objectives around energy efficiency and lighting longevity.
“We’re proud to deliver lighting that’s not only functional and beautiful, but also respectful of heritage,” says Matt Holway, Director at Connected Light. “Tyntesfield is a fantastic example of how modern lighting solutions can complement historic architecture without compromise.”
This project joins a growing list of Connected Light installations within historic and listed buildings, where technology, design and conservation come together to create lasting impact.

I have recently been working with Connected Light on a number of Lifecycle projects in the education sector and they have been great to work with, from conception and scoping works through to the delivery and installation.
They have been attentive to changes and client requirements as well as knowledgeable of the lighting systems required for a school setting and have delivered a bespoke product that the end users are very happy with. I can trust Matt and the rest of the team to come up with a solution to fit whatever criteria I’ve thrown their way that is both fit for purpose and within budget constraints! Designs are thorough and detailed and the installation works on site have always been carried out safely and with a high standard of housekeeping and pride. I look forward to continuing working with the Connected Light team!
