The RAC has been a valued client of Connected Light for over two decades. Following successful projects across their Bescot and Stretford sites, the Bradley Stoke facility became the latest to benefit from a complete LED lighting upgrade. The aim was to improve efficiency, introduce full lighting control, and meet modern compliance standards – all while respecting the architectural character of the building.
Connected Light was commissioned to deliver a full turnkey service, encompassing design, supply, installation and commissioning. The internal lighting presented a unique challenge due to the abstract structure and the presence of original bespoke uplight luminaires. To preserve the aesthetic and reduce waste, we engineered a custom LED gear tray that could be installed within the existing housing.
The original fittings lacked dimming, controls, and emergency function. Our fabrication team designed new trays incorporating DALI dimmable drivers, micro sensors, and standalone self-test emergency modules. This approach delivered a compliant, energy-efficient solution without the cost and environmental impact of full fixture replacement. Areas now dim automatically when unoccupied, saving energy while maintaining visual consistency.
Lighting design was tailored to meet all general and emergency lighting requirements in accordance with CIBSE and BS 5266. Each space was modelled using the bespoke gear tray layouts, ensuring accurate results and compliance. We also developed a ‘cost of ownership’ projection for the RAC team, demonstrating a projected return on investment within just two years.
Externally, the car park was upgraded with LED post top heads, finished in corporate colour-matched trims. Integrated occupancy controls allow the lighting to dim when areas are unoccupied, balancing security and energy efficiency throughout the night.
Internally, the previous control system had become obsolete and difficult to maintain. We implemented a hybrid of Philips Actilume DALI and Casambi wireless controls, selected to suit the needs of each application. This improved reliability, flexibility, and long-term serviceability across the site.
“This was a fantastic example of technical design meeting real-world constraints,” says Matt Holway, Director at Connected Light. “Working closely with RAC and Electrio Ltd, we delivered a smart, efficient solution that respected the building and maximised long-term value.”
Bradley Stoke continues our long-standing relationship with the RAC, reinforcing our capability to deliver sustainable and scalable lighting solutions at estate level.

As a member of BS 5266 I am so excited to see such suitable, diligent, compliant processing from Connected Light. BS 5266 pt. 1 is a Code of practice for the emergency lighting of premises. This is the base document that calls up relevant standards and outlines how they should be interfaced. It also details how types of emergency lighting systems should be designed, installed, commissioned, and tested for different types of premises. Installation and wiring considerations are detailed and the appropriate testing and commissioning documentation are defined.
Connected Light as a member of the Fire Industry Association and competent compliance with BAFE SP203 part 4 adheres to appropriate verification for suitable compliance with all of their customers.
