Completed: Spring 2014
Millennium Square car park is a familiar place to many Bristolians. A previous winner of the ‘Park Mark®’ Award for its spacious and well-lit design makes it an interesting candidate for lighting project. The management team at @Bristol were keen to progress the lighting even further to a more sustainable and lower maintenance solution without any compromise to the lighting levels or aesthetics.
Connected Light have a relationship with @Bristol that goes back many years supplying replacement lamps for their facilities. We were happy to get involved with this project to help the client achieve their objectives.
To make additional savings on an initial outlay of purchasing and installing new fittings we suggested a retrofit solution. We worked with Taison Lighting to produce a retrofit LED tray and bespoke diffuser to fit the existing body of the current light fittings. Having collaborated with Taison several times before we were confident their skills in creating bespoke products would be ideal for this project.
A prototype was designed to work on the current wiring and convert the fittings all over to LED. This not only increased the lifetime of the fittings but also, due to the degrading of the previous metal halide technology, reduced heat and dramatically improved the colour rendering and colour temperature within the car park.
The project proceeded with over 600 fittings being converted over to Taison’s product. This resulted in a reduction of annual maintenance costs down to zero and an estimated annual energy savings of over £75,000 p/a. This equated to a payback on investment within 18 months giving @Bristol the only 100% LED lit car park in the South West of England and helped them hit all of their objectives for sustainability.

As a member of BS 5266 I am so excited to see such suitable, diligent, compliant processing from Connected Light. BS 5266 pt. 1 is a Code of practice for the emergency lighting of premises. This is the base document that calls up relevant standards and outlines how they should be interfaced. It also details how types of emergency lighting systems should be designed, installed, commissioned, and tested for different types of premises. Installation and wiring considerations are detailed and the appropriate testing and commissioning documentation are defined.
Connected Light as a member of the Fire Industry Association and competent compliance with BAFE SP203 part 4 adheres to appropriate verification for suitable compliance with all of their customers.

I have recently been working with Connected Light on a number of Lifecycle projects in the education sector and they have been great to work with, from conception and scoping works through to the delivery and installation.
They have been attentive to changes and client requirements as well as knowledgeable of the lighting systems required for a school setting and have delivered a bespoke product that the end users are very happy with. I can trust Matt and the rest of the team to come up with a solution to fit whatever criteria I’ve thrown their way that is both fit for purpose and within budget constraints! Designs are thorough and detailed and the installation works on site have always been carried out safely and with a high standard of housekeeping and pride. I look forward to continuing working with the Connected Light team!
